Improve Design and User Friendliness of ONTRAMAIL

Karen Rayner

Hi guys, I'm almost drowning in frustration every time I attempt to edit an email template set up through Ontramail. Editing anything text-related or size-related to the email template results in either one or all of the below resetting itself (without you touching it):

- Spacing between content blocks (tempermental)

- Font Formatting (family, size, bold/italic/underlined) (tempermental)

- Image sizing (tempermental)

- Saving the template (tempermental)

- Button fonts colours - If your font is white in the button, the text field to edit such button results in the same colour as appears on the button itself, ultimately having to revert all colour edits you have made to adjust text

- Selecting text block/images/other elements within the block is tempermental - sometimes selecting the element within the block (e.g. a text field) won't allow you to edit it - It just freezes.

- Saving when the above error occurs - tempermental. Sometimes it wont allow me to save and I will have to re-start the mail template from scratch.

- Pop-up colour selection fields cover the 'save' button on the right-hand side of the screen, meaning sometimes you just wont be able to change the colour of the button (or the text within) and you'll have to leave the page and return to the template after saving (if you can).

New Requests:
- Solve the above errors from occurring; and

- Enable us to edit and adjust the sizing of all fields within a 'block', including images, text and spacing between each of these elements within the block.

- Button sizing - Enable us to change the size, shape, colour (existing) and outline selection of buttons

I thought i'd list all of the problems in hope this would provide some clearer direction as opposed to simply asking to 'fix ontramail'.

Thanks

Planned

An update to ONTRAmail with functions similar to our new Pages editor is in the works!

We have made several changes to improve usability of the current editor, but are forging ahead with a massive overhaul of the ONTRAmail editor just like we did for landing pages.

Thanks for your detailed request, Karen! What browser and operating system are you using (ex; Chrome on Windows 10, Safari on Mac, etc.)

Hey Karen! I'm sorry you're having challenges!

Please report everything you consider to be bugs (or 'temperamental') to support. We don't normally see issues like that, so it's likely to be something about your particular setup. For example, we've found that some browser plugins, like Grammarly, play havoc with some of our code. So, worth sending these concerns to support - they'll either find the conflict or send them up to engineering.

As for the feature requests, we've got our eye on the same opportunities. We'll see a major update to both opages + omail in a bit. They're big projects, so give us some time... but we're on it! :)

Hi Frank & Landon,

We use Google Chrome and Windows 10.

I was informed by chat support to voice concerns through the KB/Feature Requests as there was no information from the 'customer service hero' that Ontraport would be updating Ontramail anytime soon.

I'll put through the problem again to chat support. Thanks for the swift responses from you both! Really appreciate it.

Thanks, Karen! We do have an active project for improving the editor functions in ONTRApages, ONTRAforms and ONTRAmail.

The email editor is the most challenging because of the dozens of different ways an email can be displayed by various programs and browsers, and that limits what we can do in the Canvas inside the program.

Internally, we all use Google Chrome and Windows 10. All of our emails are produced using ONTRAmail (we use ONTRAPORT to run our business, too).  Landon mentioned Grammarly and it's well known problems with online editors. If you are using it, disable it for use in ONTRApages, ONTRAforms or ONTRAmail. If you have similar third-party grammar and spell checkers like Grammarly they may also be causing a problem.

If you like, you can list your Chrome Extensions here and we can verify if they are a problem. You can see them by clicking the "hamburger" menu at the top right (three vertical dots), then selecting "More Tools" and then "Extensions".

Hi Frank,

Yes, we don't have many extensions on our computers. These are the ones active below:

- Adobe Acrobate
- Google Docs, Docs offline, Sheets and Slides
- GoToMeetingPro Screensharing
- Mailtrack for Gmail & Inbox

I understand the difficulties of compensating for multiple browsers and thank you for your response! I hope none of these extensions are causing havoc with Ontraport and Ontramail.

Cheers,
K.

I don't think any of those would affect the ONTRAeditor except perhaps the screen sharing plugin. We'll test that one!

In the mean time, stay tuned for an announcement this afternoon about one improvement to ONTRAmail that we think you will like very much! It should be after 2 PM Pacific time today.

Karen it is like you read my mind!! I just recently moved over from mailchimp to OP and I must confess I am so frustrated as well! What took me only a few minutes to put together in MC now takes me over an hour (or more)

I hate that we can't format the size of buttons easily.  I am not sure why there are no numbered or bulleted lists, or even the ability to indent! It is like someone forgot half of the useful parts of text editing.  I do hope this gets fixed ASAP!
