What an interesting perspective! In fact, on the internet virtually all sidebar navigation is on the left and that is industry standard: https://www.nngroup.com/articles/vertical-nav/
We certainly don't see offering industry-standard navigation as either counter-intuitive or something to correct, but I appreciate this feature request and your design creativity! We'll leave it here and see if others are interested.
Also, you certainly do have control over font size and every other styling choice there.
