You can now format the output of merge fields, allowing you to display the Contact Record fields as capitalized (without changing the underlying data!) See our article on Formatting Merge Fields for more information.
ONTRAPORT should have a function that automatically capitalize the first letter of r first and last names in contact records. For example, Aweber uses the token {!firstname_fix}.
Usecase: Prevent manual work on individual contact records and help ONTRAPORT users look good n proper. ;)

Agreed. This would be nice to have.
Mailchimp uses the code *|Title:Fname|* to produce a title case first name. Which we have found to be extremely useful.
This is called camel case. I think this a good idea to get fixed.
This should not be automatic. Maybe an option, but not automatic—many names don't begin with a capital letter. Capitalizing letters that should be lowercase makes it feel like you're shouting at people.
This is a solution to a problem that can't be automated. People will always type garbage in the name box; it's our job to review and fix it, not rely on an automated 80% solution.
I'm okay if its not a global change that happens in the contact record itself, but I would like to have an "Insert merge field" option that does this. Rochelle mentions aWeber's {!firstname_fix} option--that was something you could do in an email but it left the contact record unchanged--if their first name started with a lower case it stayed that way, but when it was auto-added in the email using {!firstname_fix} it would change to uppercase there, and only there.
I used that merge field all of the time and I miss it!
Does Ontraport have this option yet? Or a way to comb through my list all at once and capitalize first names? Thanks!
HI Devin - we have not implemented this yet. The only alternate method I have heard of is to export all contacts with First Name, Last Name and Email fields in the CSV, open it in Excel or LibraOffice and apply the PROPER function to capitalize the first letter of the name fields, and then re-import the changed file using "Merge and Overwrite". This will overwrite only the First Name and Last Name fields with the new information.
I strongly agree that this feature is very helpful for Ontraport users.
I'm back again having to manually edit this... About 33% of people don't enter in their name with a capital letter. I'm sorry, but I can't manage to do the import/export thing while running everything else in my business.
Please update this soon! Almost all of the basic email autoresponders include this feature.
(As always, I say this with gratitude for all you guys do! Thank you!)
For those waiting for this feature, you can use a Zap from Zapier to accomplish this. Instructions are here: https://support.ontraport.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/213010687-How-Can-I-Capitalize-the-Names-in-my-Contact-Records-
