There are two ways. Both require you to use a brand new domain name that does not have a website already hosted on it.
You can either use the ONTRAPORT name servers or the main A record to host your ONTRApages on a new domain name.
WARNING: Do not change your name servers or A record on an existing domain that already has a website on it, or that you are already using for email or any other purpose. ALL DATA ON THE WEBSITE OR EMAIL ACCOUNT WILL DISAPPEAR PERMANENTLY.
Method One: Buy a new domain and set the name servers to ns1.ontraport.com and ns2.ontraport.com when you register the domain name. It may take from 2 to 48 hours for the domain name to become active across the Internet. Please note: - All existing content on your domain will disappear! - You cannot host other content on that domain! - You cannot have Email or Email addresses for that domain in ONTRAPORT (although you can have email in ONTRApages Premium as of this writing) - You cannot add other zone file records such as TXT, CNAME, etc.!
After this is set up, you can simply specify that domain name for your ONTRApages. If your domain name was "www.my-domain.tld" you would use "www.my-domain.tld" for the "home page" of your ONTRApages site. Then specify a page name like "www.my-domain.tld/about" for your "About" page, etc.
Method Two: Buy a new domain and change the domain's main A record to point to 209.170.211.187. Please note the limitations:
- All existing content on your domain will disappear!
- You cannot host other content on that domain!
- You may be able to use third party email services to have email addresses for the domain. Check with your domain registrar to see if you can use their control panel to add email addresses and specify a mail provider using MX records.
- You may be able to add other zone file records (check with your domain registrar).
This method works the same as using the name servers in Method One. After the change in your domain name's DNS record takes effect (from 2 to 48 hours), you can simply specify that domain name for your ONTRApages. If your domain name was "www.my-domain.tld" you would use "www.my-domain.tld" for the "home page" of your ONTRApages site. Then specify a page name like "www.my-domain.tld/about" for your "About" page, etc.
We recommend you get help if you are not experienced in editing a domain's Zone File or DNS Settings.
