I want to export my client's credit card numbers

Frank Hagan

I'm moving my purchase transactions to a new service and I don't see a way to export my customer's credit card information. How can I get this to download?

Because of security concerns, you cannot download your contact's credit card information. The process for transferring credit card information requires that the recipient of the information be PCI compliant

We can assist you in transferring the information to another vendor using the same process we use to Import Credit Card information. An encrypted file is prepared for the other vendor and sent either on a CD / DVD to a specific person, or transferred electronically through secure means. Because of the work involved, there is a charge for this service (see the linked article for details).

Some services refuse to handle credit card information for you due to liability concerns, even if the data is coming from another PCI compliant service like ONTRAPORT. One of our competitors is reported to require the account owner (you) to decrypt and then import the credit card information manually. Unless you are PCI compliant and meet our other standards, we cannot release the credit card information to you. At the current time (November, 2016), you can authorize ONTRAPORT to act on your behalf, log into your account as you, and upload the un-encrypted credit card information into their system. Please note that at no time do you have access to the un-encrypted credit card information. However, while ONTRAPORT has met the PCI requirements in this process, you become liable for any penalties or civil liability should a data breech occur during the process or at the new service. It is this liability that, we believe, your new service is trying to avoid.

Privacy and security standards change over time, and we encourage you to open a support ticket to find out the current procedure. Or, better yet, talk to us about your needs and why you feel you must move your account to a new service!
