Steps to reproduce.
1. Create a dropdown field, give it arbitrary items.
2. Place the field on a page form.
3. publish the page
4. go into field settings and update the definition, change order and add/remove/edit items.
5. republish page
You will note that the updated definition is not respected by the field on the form. This is the case even if the field is removed and readded to the page.
