Collect GA session ID in forms automatically

Julian Vidal

Hi,

Currently, Ontraport forms only collect the GA client ID and the GCLID. It'd be great for those to collect the GA session ID as well, this will allow to see conversion events sent to GA4 (through the measurement protocol API - Deep funnel conversion tracking) in the real time report.

For your reference, the session ID is saved in the cookie that starts with "_ga_" and the value is starts with "GS", see the screesnhot below for reference.

Currently, I have to create a text field for that, add it to all forms, hide that field with CSS, use a JS code to get the session ID and add it to the hidden field.

I'm guessing it should be a kinda "easy" implementation for the Ontraport dev team since they're already collecting GA client ID and the GCLID.

Thanks!

You guys.. we added this feature years ago. And there's a whole webinar on how to implement it. We call it deep funnel conversion tracking. There's an OP University course about this too.

What else could we have done here to make sure you guys are aware of the features you have?

Totally agree with this! Being able to track GA session IDs directly in Ontraport forms would save so much time and reduce the need for extra workarounds. It would be a game changer for conversion tracking in GA4!

Yes, please! Adding the GA session ID to Ontraport forms would be a huge help for those of us doing advanced tracking with GA4.
