Option to set product tax "on" by default

Lizzie Alkire

We have complicated tax settings, as we charge applicable tax to our Canadian customers by state. We clone checkout pages and it carries over our tax settings, which is great. But when we add a new product, taxes are "off" by default, and if we delete the product that was there before adding a new one and turning on the taxes for it, it erases all of our settings...not so great.

As long as we add a new product and turn the taxes "on," our settings are preserved, BUT it would be awesome if we could tweak the settings of our account so that taxes are on by default to reduce the number of times we accidentally erase our settings. Thanks!

Hi Lizzie!
We have released the Stripe Tax integration, which solves both of these pain points. First, this integration automates the calculation, collection, and reporting of sales tax, VAT, and GST, giving you full global coverage. This means the complexity of manually managing applicable tax rates for customers in Canada by state is now handled dynamically by Stripe based on the customer’s exact location.

Second, and directly addressing your core request: When Stripe Tax is enabled, all products in the product grid will automatically have the tax function enabled, and this toggle cannot be switched off. This ensures that when you add new products, the tax settings are always active, preventing the accidental loss of your overall tax configuration.
