Webhooks: Add Logs and Retry Failed Post Requests

Carolyn Birchill

Hello!

It would be really great if you guys could add logs of outgoing Webhooks, as well as response codes, data in/out, and if a request fails, it would be really great to have ONTRAPORT retry the request. Currently, if there is a load balancer timout for example, the data will not reach the intended recipient.

Thanks!

Hi Carolyn!

Following up on your request. We previously added a webhook activity log to accounts, and today we've released a "Replay" action to it. This action allows you to retry your requests. We also added a webhook failure notification. You can add the emails you want notified when a webhook fails.

This would be very valuable as right now there is no accountability that webhooks have been processed.

Ontraport says the webhook was sent but receiving system has no record of it. So we cannot tell who is to blame. Logs of responses/erros would fix this.

There is no easy to to tell which webhooks failed which means offline data comparison to identify and fix  them.

I would also suggest adding a trigger 'Webhook failed' so that further automation could be customized to deal with it e.g. send email to admin, wait 1 hour and retry etc.

Totally agree. At the moment you fire off a webhook request and hope for the best. You can do error handling if you developed the webhook, but there is no way of identifying network connectivity issues where the webhook was not even called.

It would be great to be able to retry webhook calls if they fail.

Hi Carolyn and others following this post,

We just released webhook activity logs! Here's some info:

Ontraport’s new webhook activity log simplifies troubleshooting your webhooks.

Use these logs to spot and quickly fix network errors, configuration problems and formatting issues. Optimize your webhooks by looking at the types of data they send and receive.

And improve your security by identifying suspicious activity that might indicate a breach.

Just go to Your accountAdministrationIntegrationsWebhook log.
