Official comment
The new Simple Mail editor, released today, does have background "copy to html" functionality built in. We are still in the "Planned" stage for OntraMail.

[ONTRAmail] Auto-update HTML
I do not think I am the only one that forgets to update the plaint text html so I would like to see it auto update to mirror the changes. It is such a bummer to have to take multiple steps instead of having one that takes care of it.

No this would be a bad idea, because copying from html overrides the formatting and I pretty much always need to redo the formatting on the text only version. Copying from html just lumps all the paragraphs together so its not readable. So if I am making only minor changes to the html version I will go to the text one and just make the same changes there.
