Ability to see contacts with a given tag without making a group
I would like to be able to click the name of a tag, either on a contact or in the tag manager, and see all the contacts with that tag. Creating a group to do it just feels like extra work, and is especially annoying if there are lots of tags and you just want to browse through and see who's in each one.

No, we don't have this one on our development roadmap yet, as other priorities have taken precedence. You can create groups for any tag or combination of tags, so it isn't a feature request in high demand.
Automation in Ontraport isn't limited to just tags like some other systems. As an example, you don't have to use tags like "Purchased Product X" to identify those purchasers. You can simply use a Trigger, Condition or Goal in a campaign for the purchase directly, without having to assign a tag and then sort by the tag.
But, we realize a lot of people love to use tags and we'll keep this feature request open to see if there's more interest in it.
