Update Drop-down Fields Automatically If It is on a Form

Brett Spodak

Current Procedure: if you put a Drop-down field on an ONTRAform or a form block on a Landing Page, then you edit the selectable options for that field in the Field Editor, you have to remove the field from your ONTRAform or Landing Page and then re-add the field in order for the new values to show up.

Requested Feature: make it so that the field updates automatically to show the newly added values. This process works with the Legacy Smart Forms.

We have debated this. Ideally, you would never change the values on a drop down box that has been included on a published form. The issue is that a value you delete or change might be essential to the purpose of the form, and you could lose either the opt-in or the sale as people bail out. So we keep multiple versions of the drop down field to maintain that backward compatibility. The initial values, when the drop down field was first published on the form, stay in place.

We could certainly remove that behavior if demand is high. We'll leave this open for votes and comments to see if there's a demand for it.

Hey Frank, I agree with Brett, and i'm not quite sure I understand your reply.

A CRM should function as a database, where information is "pulled" from a single source. If you allow for different options from what already exists in Field Editor, then you are open to data duplication and redundancy.

I am in need of a date (for our courses) to be put on 3 Forms, currently, I have to update new dates in the Field Editor First, then on all 3 forms manually - it doesn't make sense.

Regards,

PLEASE REMOVE THAT BEHAVIOUR... I NEED IT TO BE UPDATED AUTOMATICALLY - What you can do ot avoid those issues is so that you can give the user the option of how those updates will affect current users and those fields...

it's an extra question to ask every time you change the field but it will save HOURS in manual updates every time I change a field.

At minimum, when adding a new drop down field option, that option should be available without having to delete and re-add the field from a form.
