Allow contacts to Pay with PayPal for Recurring Payments

George Shepherd

A lot of contacts like to pay for products using Pay with PayPal, however you can't use the option to pay with PayPal if the product is a subscription or a payment plan.

It would be very useful and helpful to have the option to offer subscription products and give the client/contact the option to pay with PayPal.

Clients/contacts get discouraged to purchase if they don't have the option to pay for a recurring payment using Pay with PayPal, and ultimately that leads to loss in sales.

ONTRAPORT handles subscriptions and payment plans internally, rather than passing the subscription information to PayPal. We have looked at allowing the use of PayPal subscriptions but the problem has always been that we cannot control the communication and status of the subscription using automation within ONTRAPORT.

The advantage of our system is that you don't have to do anything special to move from one gateway to another, as a simple support ticket will change all existing subscriptions from Stripe to Authorize.net (as an example). You don't have to contact your clients to have them re-enable their subscriptions, we just change the gateway on the backend. This allows you to change when you get better pricing on your transactions.

You can use PayPal "Buy Now" buttons for a PayPal subscription and place them in a Custom HTML block on an ONTRAPORT Page.

Edit: Forgot to mention we'll keep this open for more votes and comments to see if it's something we should investigate again.

I would also like to be able to offer both credit card (stripe) and paypal option for recurring payments for our clients.

Some of our clients are in different countries all over the world and not everyone has credit card so it allows more people to use our courses if we have the paypal option also.

We would definitely like to see this feature because it would dramatically simplify the sales process of offering a subscription as an upsell for a front end offer. (Especially for those who are savvy online shoppers or international buyers.) It is almost becoming expected that PayPal is offered and not being able to leverage this for subscriptions makes customers automatically skeptical of your subscription offer and now they are afraid of sharing their details. Not to mention international markets that are unable to buy without using PayPal because their banks have weird security and limits on card use.

It just seems like too valuable of a tool to completely overlook.

Thank you, Frank, for keeping this matter open.

Running into this issue too. Direct payments through PP is pretty much essential for ecom. Not having the ability to control subscriptions the way we could using a credit card form is a huge disadvantage. It actually forces me to see what other OP competitors have to offer in this area. Nothing else matters if you can't process payments the way the customer want to pay

I would also use this.

About 30% of my sales are through PayPal, so even if technically it is not optimal for OP, it is a common request of my customers.
