A REAL gallery... please!

Several of my pages showcase photography for several high end homes. Some homes have over 100 interior home images. Currently it takes me between 20-40 seconds to add a single image. That's nearly an hour for one house. And I have over 20 homes. Uhg.

A simple gallery is just a collection of images displayed as thumbnails in grid fashion, and are clickable to view an larger version of the thumbnail. Many businesses need these.

For a new Gallery Feature, we need a way to easily upload several images at once to the Gallery Block. They need to be easily reordered. The cherry on top would be the ability to mass tag the images.

Hi Lane. Hope you are well!

Just wanted to clarify exactly what it is you want here. Here is what it sounds like to me. Let me know if this is correct.

  • A faster image uploader with the ability to bulk tag all the images you add
  • An image gallery element in pages where you can select certain images to display and then re-order the way they display

Here is what I would envision...

Editor view (within Ontrapages):

  • Create a new block element specific for Gallery
  • Bulk image upload to Gallery Library
  • Ability to apply tag(s) to bulk image uploads
  • Library view of images (small) that can quickly be managed without having to drill down into sub menus
  • By default images are added to Gallery Library in the order of upload (First uploads at the top, latest at bottom)
  • Gallery library images can be drag-n-dropped to reorganize quickly
  • setting for row or grid display option
  • setting to set how many thumbnails per row
  • separate options for mobile and desktop config

In page display:

  • Gallery Block displays a row or grid of thumbnails
  • Clicking on thumbnail produces a light box with the enlarged image. Arrows allow user to advance images. X closes lightbox and under-page is returned
  • Thumbnails scale to page width according to row settings

Amazing feedback Jared. Thank you for going the extra mile too. I think your design is fairly close to how we would implement it.

Gonna update this request to 'planned' but please hold your expectations for a speedy release. With the projects we have on our plate it's going to be a bit before we can add it. That said this is a good addition.

That's fantastic! Could you give a ballpark on the availability of this as a new feature? 1 month? 5 months? 1 year?...

If its not to far out, I'll hold out for it. Otherwise, I'll have to come up with a work-around until then.
