Better Email Editor

Andrea Vitz

I find Ontramail so limiting. Can you please expand the editor so you can just add a text block or image as you wish. Or set columns and add images or text fields. The ones you provide as blocks are just limiting and a pain in the butt to try to get them to work for anything professional.

Try out Mailchimps Editor if you want to see how to make it awesome. Everything else about Ontraport is amazing you must upgrade the email editor system!!!

We do have a revamp planned for OntraMail (but no ETA yet because it's not yet in development).

I second, third and fourth this request. I would ask that it be given higher priority. Your email editor is pretty dated at this point and the original request came in 2+ yrs ago.

I would agree with the OP that MailChimp's editor is definitely better (MailerLite and others are even better), BUT I would NOT recommend following MailChimp's footsteps. They seemingly abandoned their email service for the newer, shiny marketing automation features. Now neither work as well as they should.

Like the OP, I ADORE your platform and your customer support is hands down the best I've ever experienced. The email editor just needs a facelift. I've included specifics, from my POV, below...

  • All around more modern text and template editing UI design and features (specific fonts, font sizes, emojis, easy drag/drop images/columns/media/etc.)

  • ONE edit button, not one you have to press 3x to get into edit mode. ONE save button (solved by implementing the next bullet)

  • Auto-create the non-HTML version and move the subject line entry field to the main screen. If you can't facilitate this for whatever reason, make the formatting from the HTML stick. I constantly have to manually fix bad line breaks and missed hard returns.

  • Send to contact/group FROM the email editor screen

  • Better retention of formatting from other platforms (like Google Docs, et al) and retention of set email styles in OP being applied to pasted text

  • Key command URL linking (like Google's command-K)

Extra Credit:

  • Evaluate subject line deliverability/open rate likeliness in real-time as it's typed

  • [This is automation related, not editor related] Ability to send on the same day of the month by way of "3rd Thursday" (for example)

Thanks Maya! Great ideas; most of which I expect us to implement along with some really powerful other ones I'm super excited about.

As Frank mentioned above, we have this on our roadmap but it's just taking a bit to get there. That said it's much closer than it was before. We may start on it before the end of the year but probably won't be able to release till next. We will make sure to go through your list once we start planning this project's details however. Thanks for the feedback.

Any updates on the timeline for this?  The blocks provided are not sufficient.  Ability to build blocks by selecting # of columns and dragging in content into those columns like text and images would be ideal!

Actually yes! We don't have an ETA just yet, but we've made some significant progress on this project and should have better insight into a timeline in the coming weeks.

We agree that this is an important project!

This is in progress. Don't have an ETA yet, but likely summer/late summer.
