Setting to allow Commissions to be paid to only the first payment on a payment plan/subscription product

Currently, commissions are paid for EVERY payment of a payment plan or subscription product. The only way to prevent this is either to manually cancel the extra commissions or set up a series of workarounds, each of which has it's drawbacks. Refer to support ticket #490099 for more details.

Coupons currently allow a discount to only apply to the first payment. Is this something that can also be applied to a commissionable product?
