Calendar Availability | By Date vs Globally

Cyrissa Carlson

As someone who has a schedule that looks a little different every single day, I would LOVE to have the ability to control my calendar by date vs globally.  The way it's set up now, I have to set my calendar so it's basically wide open, then go and make "fake" appointments or bookings so I'm blocked off.  It's so counter-intuitive and definitely not a good use of my time.  Help a girl out?

I'm curious about this idea. How do you imagine it working? You want to go into the booking page and set specific availability for every single day? That seems like a lot more work than setting general settings, then blocking off when you're unavailable. How do you picture it?

Thanks for your curiosity, Landon. 🤗

As a photographer, I use the calendar in an atypical manner because I photograph my clients in the 90 minutes before sunset.  Where this gets complicated is that the sunset is an ever-changing time that varies day-to-day.

EXAMPLE AVAILABILITY:

  • Sunday September 14th @ 6-7:30pm
  • Saturday October 4th @ 5:30-7pm
  • Sunday October 26th @ 4:30-6pm

To facilitate this, I made my global calendar availability in Ontraport 4:30pm-7:30pm every Saturday and Sunday from September 14 - October 26.  Then needed to hop into Google calendar and create faux calendar appointments to block off the time when I'm NOT available for photoshoots.  As you can imagine, this creates conflicts with other calendars/availability and generally makes a mess.

To make the example work in the calendar, with global settings, I had to set my availability up in Ontraport. Then make faux events in Google Calendar, blocking off:

  • 5 Saturdays entirely
  • October 4th 4:30pm-5:30pm
  • October 4th 7pm-7:30pm
  • 2 Sundays entirely for personal commitments
  • September 14th 4:30pm-6pm
  • October 26th 6-7:30pm
  • plus an additional 6 time blocks for other photoshoots not used in this example, but in similar situations as the ones referenced above

That's a whopping 17 faux events + 2 platforms used to make it work with the current system.  And just to make it more fun, I have three different types of photoshoots I offer.... which also means making sure all the booking pages, etc are set-up correctly.

If I could set-up my availability by day, I would have only needed to create 3 time blocks for those example dates {and 6 total time blocks overall}.

As a creative entrepreneur with raging ADHD, I use Ontraport to make my life more simple.  And to be honest, in most cases, it does that and I love it.  But when it comes to the Calendar.... 🤪

Would love to see what creative solutions your team could create!  Thanks for your curiosity and consideration!

xoxo, Cyrissa
