User roles contain set groups and dashboard metrics

Matthew Krause

My problem: Each time I add a user, I have to setup new groups and new metrics.

Solution: Create a "copy user" button. It creates a new user with the same groups, same roles, same dashboard metrics (dashboard metrics defined by owner).

This will help every Ontra Admin user save a lot of time.

Unless I'm misunderstanding, you can do this today by following our example in our documentation on Set your team users, roles and permissions. Create a Role with the permissions you want, name it appropriately like "Sales" or "Support", and assign that role whenever you add a new user.

Hi, Thanks for the response. Yes you are misunderstanding, the point of this feature would be to create a pre-defined set of groups (in contacts) and metrics (in the dashboard).

Every time I start a new user, I have to set up their groups. I am aware I can make a group public and everyone sees it, but most of the time you want groups based on their roles. A manager will want to have different groups than a salesperson for example. This way, each user will have three sets of groups - groups that come pre-defined with their role, groups that are set to "public" and their own private groups.

Additionally, If I create a bunch of metrics, each new user I have to setup the same metrics under the same conditions. On top of this, for managers, I have to also add new metrics for that new user in their account as well. Most metrics are best defined by their role. So if I copy a user, it copies the metrics I've pre-defined for that role. So for salespeople, when a new user is created they have a set list of metrics that concerns themselves and thier sales process. For a mangers, each time a user is created it also adds a set of pre-defined metrics for each user - tracking individual performance.

I hope this make sense. Thanks.
