Conditional blocks based on date / time

Ernesto Gutierrez

During launches we often add bonuses or payment options to a sales page and it's a bit cumbersome to stay on top of every element that needs to be adjusted in the middle of the launch.

What we currently do is leverage the A/B testing feature for Ontrapages. We duplicate the page as version B, make the necessary changes, then turn off the A/B testing feature.

This way, in the middle of the launch, we go in turn the feature back on, select version B and turn it off again so everyone sees this new version.

This works but is not very convenient and is a not useful at all for evergreen launches.

This could be solved by displaying (or hiding) a block or element based on today's date & time.

ps. I know an alternative is to have an automation assign or remove a tag to a contact after certain date and THEN display or hide the element or block based on this tag… but in this case it would not work for a cold audience (ie not cookied).

My point is that this is not a feature request, because the feature exists. What you are asking for is a discount, or to have functionality available at your account level which is not currently available at your account level. The dynamic CMS is exactly for what the name says: making your content dynamic based on the data in your account. That's what is being asked here, and so we put that feature with all the others that make your pages dynamic.

What's more, given your particular use case with weekly contact, etc, dynamic CMS is absolutely the right tool for the job. You should give it a shot, it will make your life a lot easier.

Full agree - would like more options in general related to this.

Hi Ernesto,
Thanks for your request! We’ve just released date and time conditions for pages and blocks.

You’ll now see a “Show this block when today’s date is” option in the display conditions, so you can show or hide content based on specific dates.

@Kristen - it is a great release, thank you.  However, both Ernesto and my request still isn't in the feature.  Specifically for me - I want to be able to set a display date/time to show a block, and then disappear it.  This would be for monthly or weekly content.  As it stands, even with this release, that is still not an option.  Your comment suggests it is, but it is not.  We had this discussion with Landon in the Facebook group too.

@Lucas, as discussed in the Facebook group, your request has already been a feature for years. You simply need to use the correct tools for the job, which is the Dynamic CMS. If you have any questions about how to implement that, contact support.

@Landon as also mentioned our account doesn’t have Dynamic CMS. Ontraport should be the right tool… This is a feature that shouldn’t require either - it’s fairly common on other landing pages. In the past support has told us it can’t be done the way asked though. So unsure why you’re saying it can and they’re saying it can’t.

Again, support said it could not be done..

And no, I am not asking for a discount.  I am asking for a feature that a mid-level plan, that we are on, should have.  This isn't even "the next level issue" as it is an add on.  Every other landing page and system has added this at this point - it shouldn't require extra purchasing.  We aren't even on the lowest tier.  I really do not appreciate that type of comment as it comes across like we are not a valued customer, yet we have been for 10 years at this point.  I am not asking for every single feature to be at every single level, and I absolutely did not ask for a discount anywhere.

Again though, when we asked at least twice, support said it could not be done.

@lucas, of course you are a long time and deeply valued member of our community. That goes without question.

The issue here is that you're posting a feature request for a feature that we've had for a long time.

Now, if our team told you it was not possible I sincerely apologize for that error. Perhaps they meant 'unless you get Dynamic CMS'. Or perhaps they made a mistake. But here is a video of how you'd make that happen in Ontraport: https://www.loom.com/share/72bc5a035653474e9ab24ef04483e017

Now, the question of whether this should or should not be available in Ontraport without our Dynamic CMS is fair enough to ask, but it's certainly not a matter for a feature request forum.

Regarding that question, our thinking is this: maybe other landing page systems have that, but other landing page systems don't have marketing and business automation, CRM and sales automation, payments, support systems, etc etc etc. Our core product features a basic landing page builder, but for advanced functionality, we have a market-leading product called Dynamic CMS that you can add to your account for just $50/mo. That's less than it would cost to jump to the next account-level up of Ontraport, so really you're better off just adding that very, very robust feature set. And, as I have mentioned a few times, your specific business is an ideal candidate for that feature set which, by the way, is unmatched in functionality by any other landing page system you may consider and it's not even close.

To end, let me reiterate how much we value our long-time customers like yourself. I am aware you didn't ask for a discount directly, but the feature you are asking for absolutely exists. I will follow up with our support team to ensure they answer this question correctly in the future.

Very best regards,
L

L,

I hesitated and waited to post this reply as I wanted to see how a solution would come to be.

You telling me I am asking for a discount and arguing publicly does not show you value me as a customer.  And had I wanted to say the same thing - I could say you were trying to get more money out of me...yet I didn't feel that was a useful statement.  Instead of the arguing, you could be checking with your team on why they have provided wrong information.  Your statement about having them reach out...almost a week later and they have not.

I was simple asking for a feature in an above basic account that is not offered.

Because I value the history I have with Ontraport, I want to be clear here - we switched from Infusionsoft way back when we came over because their process was requiring a bunch of add-ons, the nickel-and-diming.  This was something at the time Ontraport did not do.  And as to other landing pages - there are features and offerings I think you have missed from your biggest competitors.  My suggestion would be just to include all of this at least for any non-basic account and charge accordingly - the add-on option gets too confusing.  And when I have looked at the dynamic CMS, it does not appear it would come out to $50 - so I don't know if you are understanding our needs or just mentioning the lowest price.  Going above $200/mo is above market rates right now.

I offered a request in line with another.  You offered someone to reach out, and no one did.  I would kindly suggest that instead of the public back and forth, maybe listen to my needs and connect offline to find a solution that works for both of us.  Out of all the systems we have tried, we have typically found Ontraport support to be the best, so I want to provide that compliment.

Hey Lucas, clearly we are not understanding each other and it seems like we'll just have to let it go this time.

I don't remember saying that I would have support reach out, and I couldn't find that comment, but if I did my apologies because I did not ask them to. I did say that I would follow up with them to make sure the team is correctly trained on this subject, and I did do that.

I don't know enough about your situation to recommend a dynamic CMS plan for you, but most users are fine with the most basic plan, at least for the use case you have described and which I demonstrated in that video I made for you. If you are concerned about price or curious about what's possible, I encourage you to reach out to the sales team for clarity.

Once again, I appreciate your continued trust and your contributions to the community.
