Reoccurring Task

First, create the Task in the Messages collection. 

Once created, you can automate assigning the Task each month using a Date Sequence. Use 12 Task Steps, one for each month, and ensure that the Run this step every year checkbox is marked off. 

This Task will be created on the first of January every year because I have the Run this step every year checkbox marked. 

You can also trigger assigning a Task using a Rule; this can be used if you want to have personalized follow up every time a particular product is purchased, etc. There are quite a few events that can trigger a global Rule.
